The Difference between being rejected, deferred and waitlisted.

Subject: Understanding Admissions Outcomes: Rejection, Deferral, and Waitlist

Dear Seniors

I hope this email finds you well and thriving during your senior year. As the college application season unfolds, I wanted to discuss the various outcomes you might encounter and provide insights into what each means.

Rejection:

Receiving a rejection can be tough, and it’s completely natural to feel disappointed. College admissions are highly competitive, and decisions are based on many factors. A rejection does not define your worth or potential. It’s a redirection, not a roadblock. Use this opportunity to explore other options and embrace new possibilities.

Deferral:

If you find yourself deferred, it means the admissions committee has postponed their decision until later. This isn’t necessarily a negative outcome; it indicates that they want to review your application further, possibly in the context of the regular decision pool. In the meantime, focus on your academics and consider submitting any updates that strengthen your application.

Waitlist:

Being placed on a waitlist means the college is interested in your candidacy, but they currently have more qualified applicants than available spots. While being on a waitlist can be uncertain, it’s not the end of the road. Express your continued interest in the school and, if permitted, provide additional materials or accomplishments that showcase your ongoing achievements.

Remember, each of you possesses unique talents, experiences, and qualities that make you valuable contributors to any academic community. College decisions are not definitive judgments of your abilities or potential but rather reflections of the complex and competitive nature of the admissions process.

If you have any questions or need support navigating these outcomes, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to support you in every step of this journey.

Wishing you resilience, optimism, and the strength to embrace the exciting paths ahead.

With gratitude,

Debbie

Review Your Acceptance Letter:

Carefully read through your acceptance letter and any accompanying materials. Note important dates, deadlines, and specific instructions provided by the college.

Confirm Your Enrollment:

Most colleges will ask for your confirmation of enrollment by a certain date. This is typically accompanied by a deposit. Ensure that you understand the process and meet the deadline to secure your spot.

Connect with Roommates and Future Classmates:

Many colleges have online platforms or social media groups where admitted students can connect. Take advantage of these opportunities to get to know your future classmates, find potential roommates, and build community.

Plan Your Visit:

If feasible, consider visiting the campus. This will give you a firsthand look at your new home and an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the surroundings.
